Honduras Recipes - Simply Tasty! by: Wolf Sebring
Honduras Recipes - Honduran foods are simple yet very tasty. You will find meals here consisting of mainly tortillas, beans, rice, meat, plantains , and potatoes. In fact, in Honduras, you will find tortillas practically with every meal—much like bread is eaten with meals in the United States. Tortillas Ingredients required: 1 cup of corn meal flour or what they call Masa Harina 1/2 to 3/4 cup of water 1 tortilla press and wax paper Mix the masa for two minutes into a ball. Only mix in small amounts of water to maintain consistency. Divide the masa ball into eight pieces. You do not want the dough to dry out so place a towel over the pieces while you do other steps. Put a piece of dough between a couple of sheets of wax paper and run through the press. Toss each pressed piece and cook in an un-greased griddle and turn as you them start to brown. Serve under a kitchen towel to keep them warm. Fried Plantains Another favorite food in Honduras is fried plantains or what they call plantanos. Plantains are related to bananas but much larger. They are also prepared in different stages of ripening. When they cooked green they are called tostones. They can also be yellow or brown to black. The black-colored plantain—as long as it is not too mushy—is the sweetest one and tastes excellent fried. Another of Honduras recipes is to prepare these: First cut the banana in two halves and do not peel. Then cut each half into halves along the length of the section. This yields a quartered plantain and the pieces are relatively flat. Finally, peel the plantain. Heat up a pan with oil. Place the plantain in the oil once it has reached a medium-high temperature. Fry and turn as the natural sugars begin to carmelize and turn brown. This will take around six minutes. When finished frying, place them on a paper towel for removing the excess oil. These are just a couple of Honduras recipes but enough to give you a good taste of Honduras. |
