Honduras music is a blend of European, African, and indigenous tribe sounds. Here you will find the music is played with instruments known as the conch shell and the marimba. Other instruments that could be included in a Honduran band are the accordion and guitar. One of the native indigenous groups, the Lenca, have held on to their musical traditions with what is called the guancasco dance. Other indigenous groups, the Garifunas and the Miskitos also have their own style of traditional music derived from European, African, and indigenous. Spanish music rhythms also go into Honduran music. Escaped Nigerian slaves and Island Caribs are responsible bringing Garfuna music to Honduras. The slaves came to Honduras and Bellize in 1802 after being deported from St. Vincent. The Garfunas formed their own culture. The music is composed from a three-beat rhythm. There are songs with themes around women and men with a cappella songs and men's work songs. Another popular form of Honduras music in Honduras is The Punta. This is a type of music that is notorious for being very difficult to dance to. The music has its roots on the Atlantic Coast of Honduras and is original to the country. Any of the popular music in Honduras is usually derived from American or Mexican pop hits. Comayagua is the home of the College of Fine Arts and is an important music center here. Popuular artists from Honduras include Guillermo Anderson who is a singer and songwriter. You also have Honduran Rock Groups such as Diablos Negros, Pez Luna, Evolucian Neutra, and Delinium to name a few. Punta groups include La Tribu Lenca, La Banda Blanca, and Los Gatos Brabos.
